Isernia

Isernia, at 439 meters above sea-level, is the old Aesernia, allied of the Romans against Hannibal. It conserves the remains of polygonal walls, temples, sepulchers, bridges and a Samnite-Roman aqueduct.
The Romanic “Fontana Fraterna”, and the neo-classic cathedral (rebuilt in 1857) are remarkable. The economy of the two cities, for the most part, has developed tertiary activities, and is carried out by public and private services. Besides the regional, provincial and municipal departments, there are health, transport, banking, insurance, educational institutions and commercial services.
